Bere Island Publishing

Bere Island Publishing aims to collect and house all recent and older publications relevant to (or ‘about’ or ‘written on’) Bere Island.

These can be fiction stories, or novels, non-fiction and historical works, but also popular-scientific publications and nature, hiking, bird watching guides.

Bere Island authors can choose to be featured on this site – with their works, or with links to where their writings can be purchased. Otherwise, and wherever possible, works will be made freely available and downloadable.

Bere Island Publishing is for Bere Island, for sharing ‘heritage’, ‘knowledge’ and ‘community’. It is strictly not-for-profit. Bere Island Publishing works closely together with the Bere Island Project Group and aligns with its principles and communications.

A True Bere Island Initiative

The Bere Island Projects Group has endorsed the Bere Island Publishing site and process:

“We welcome the new Bere Island Publishing initiative which we believe will provide a platform for all existing Bere Island related publications and will provide an outlet for new authors to publish their work relating to the island.

We understand that Bere Island Publishing is a not-for-profit entity and assuch we welcome their endeavours to document Bere Island’s rich literary and written traditions, and provide an outlet for the next generation of island authors.

Bere Island Projects Group CLG.”

This means we will always work very closely, link our site to the official Bere Island website (bereisland.net) and support all other BIPG and BI initiatives. In this link you will find the official endorsement letter.

How It Works

Existing publication references will be collected on our site, if needed after agreement with the author(s). We encourage all authors using our site, be it for older but especially new works, to make their writing as much as possible freely available for electronic download; either hosted on Bere Island Publishing site, or through another link. We believe in free sharing of electronic content. Bere Island Publishing will not be involved in any commercial transaction. Authors wanting to traditionally sell their work, will need to do so through their own sites, or (social media) pages.
PRINTED books are an exception. These may be sold or ordered through the Bere Island Heritage Center and processed for sending through the Rerrin Post Office on Bere Island. Where relevant, this is mentioned with the works.
Once again, Bere Island Publishing is non-for-profit and not involved in any monetary transaction
