Position: SkillBridge: Damage Control Training and Inventory Expert

Location: Chesapeake, VA

Time Status: Full-Time / Internship

FLSA Category: Non-Exempt

Primary Functions:

The Navy Damage Control Training and Inventory Expert SkillBridge Program is a six-month, full-time training opportunity that provides structured, supervised professional development for transitioning Navy Service Members. The program applies Navy damage control and shipboard inventory experience to civilian maritime and defense logistics environments.

Training focuses on safety, emergency response principles, inventory accountability, regulatory awareness, and training development relevant to defense and government contracting operations. Instruction is delivered through classroom training, supervised hands-on exercises, simulations, and observational learning.

This SkillBridge position is strictly a training and professional development role. Participants do not displace civilian employees, perform unsupervised labor, or assume independent operational responsibilities. All activities are supervised and conducted in accordance with Department of Defense SkillBridge requirements.

Position Requirements:

  • HS Diploma
  • Transitioning Service Member
  • Command Endorsement for SkillBridge
  • Prior Damage Control Experience
  • Ability to work in a shipboard environment without limitations
  • This position requires the participant to be onsite due to the operational commitment of the role.
General Experience:

Experience obtained through U.S. Navy service in damage control, emergency response, and/or inventory accountability functions. Experience may include participation in shipboard drills, locker inventories, maintenance readiness checks, training support, or safety program execution. Civilian experience is not required; equivalent military training and practical application satisfy this requirement.

Functional responsibilities are training-focused and may include observation, assisted analysis, guided simulations, documentation review, and development of training materials under direct supervision. The participant does not exercise independent authority, make operational decisions, or perform unsupervised labor. This opportunity does require performing physical tasks to install equipment on ships.

Specialized Experience:

Specialized experience may include Navy damage control qualifications or related experience such as firefighting, flooding control, CBRN defense, shipboard emergency response, damage control locker inventories, training team participation, or safety program support. Familiarity with Navy inventory accountability practices, technical manuals, checklists, and training documentation is highly relevant. Experience delivering or assisting with training, drills, or instructional briefs is beneficial.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must meet all Department of Defense/Department of War SkillBridge eligibility requirements and continue to meet the requirements during participation in the program
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and participate in supervised training exercises
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a professional training environment
  • Willingness to comply with company policies, confidentiality requirements, and safety standards
  • Ability to adapt military experience to civilian training and logistics frameworks
