Your Role at GEI GEI Consultants, Inc. (GEI) is seeking an Ecologist to conduct project work in ecological consulting and restoration management. The Ecologist will work collaboratively with clients and GEI’s environmental and engineering team on multi-benefit projects for private and public clients. The role involves field data collection, reporting, permitting, and the preparation of technical documents to support local, state, and federal permit acquisition. Projects are primarily in Colorado with occasional out‑of‑state travel up to one consecutive week on multiple occasions each year. Essential Responsibilities & Duties Develop environmental compliance strategies aligned with local, state and federal regulations. Stay current on changes to environmental regulations and economic trends. Manage technical data and client relationships for a range of environmental projects. Prepare study segments, evaluations, technical documents and permit applications for projects related to water quality, ecology, restoration, and more. Participate in teams tackling aquatic resource delineations, stream data collection, vegetation monitoring, watershed assessments, fire mitigation and biological assessments. Support proposal efforts, attend approved conferences, and encourage professional organization participation. Work on construction sites to confirm permit compliance and coordinate with crews. Commit to safety as an essential part of the role. Assist with project file, data, and meeting organization. Travel overnight, sometimes consecutive nights, for field data collection and training. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Desire to participate in field collection in varied weather and environmental conditions. Willingness to learn project management duties and support managers throughout the project lifecycle. Experience with Colorado state and federal environmental laws (Clean Water Act §404, Endangered Species Act, NEPA, local 1041 permits) and drafting associated compliance documents. B.S./M.S. in environmental science, biology, natural resources, or related field. At least five years of relevant experience, with one year of consulting. Experience in wetland delineations, GIS coordination, technical report preparation, and permit application development. General knowledge of U.S. natural resource policies and trends. Prior stakeholder engagement experience. Strong oral and written communication, including technical writing. Independent, self‑motivated, and team‑orientated work ethic. Valid driver’s license. Direct experience with functional wetland and stream assessments (SQT or equivalent) and FACWet preferred. Experience with sensitive species and GIS preferred.
