Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist dentists during a variety of treatment procedures.
  • Handle suction, tissue retraction, and passing of instruments smoothly during clinical procedures.
  • Take dental radiographs (x-rays) including bitewings, periapical, and panoramic images.
  • Ensure patients are comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment.
  • Prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment.
  • Provide patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, such as the placement of a restoration (filling).
  • Record treatment information in patient records.
  • Assist with and instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
  • Make preliminary scans for study models and various prosthesis.
  • Assist in the placement and removal of rubber dams, sutures, and dental dam clamps.
  • Effectively utilize digital dental technology such as the iTero 3D digital scanner and Sprint Ray 3D Printer.
  • Independently perform expanded duties such as placing amalgam and composite restorations, fabricating and seating temporary crowns, and conducting denture/partial adjustments or temporary reline procedures.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Dental Assistant program.
  • Hold a current Dental Assistant certification to include X-ray certification as required by the state.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a dental setting, preferably with experience in expanded duties.
  • Strong understanding and competency in dental procedures including but not limited to fillings, crowns, dentures, partials, root canals, implants, perio/hygiene, orthodontics, and minor surgical procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, ensuring clear and effective communication with both patients and colleagues.
  • Efficiency in managing multiple tasks and maintaining a calm, professional demeanor in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to operate dental technology, specifically proficiency with the iTero or Trios 3D digital scanner.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented behavior.
  • Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
