The ICU System Resource Registered Nurse at Methodist Healthcare is a highly skilled clinical professional who provides expert critical care support across multiple intensive care units within SA Health facilities. Working within the Healthcare & Medical Services department, this nurse functions as a system-wide resource, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care for critically ill adult patients while supporting bedside teams with complex assessments, rapid interventions, and coordination of care. As part of SA Health, a member of HCA Healthcare, you will contribute to a network that provides comprehensive medical services ranging from routine patient care to highly specialized treatments. In this role, you will float among ICU units based on patient acuity and staffing needs, serving as a clinical resource for nurses and interdisciplinary team members. You will perform advanced assessments, titrate vasoactive drips, manage ventilated patients, respond to emergencies and rapid response calls, and collaborate closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other allied health professionals. You will play a key role in implementing and reinforcing protocols for sepsis management, stroke and cardiac care pathways, sedation and pain management, and prevention of ICU-related complications such as delirium, pressure injuries, and hospital-acquired infections. The ICU System Resource RN promotes a culture of patient-centric care, safety, and continuous improvement consistent with SA Health’s values of collaboration, innovation, and community involvement. You will mentor and precept bedside ICU nurses, assist with onboarding new team members, support adherence to best practices and regulatory standards, and participate in performance improvement initiatives, audits, and data collection. You will help ensure continuity of care across units, facilitate effective handoffs, and support families in understanding treatment plans, prognosis, and transitions of care. This position requires strong critical thinking, rapid decision-making, and excellent communication skills. You must be comfortable working in fast-paced, high-acuity environments, prioritizing multiple complex patients, and using advanced monitoring and documentation systems. Proficiency with electronic health records, telemetry and hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management basics, and ICU medication administration is essential. The role includes day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts as required to meet system needs, with potential for a hybrid of on-site and limited remote responsibilities related to documentation, education, or virtual rounding when applicable.
