Thornapple Kellogg Middle School Principal

Thornapple Kellogg Middle School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered instructional leader to serve as Principal. The Principal is responsible for fostering a positive, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment that supports the success of all students. This role provides visionary leadership in curriculum, instruction, student services, and staff development while maintaining a strong partnership with families and the broader community. The Principal ensures a safe school climate, promotes continuous improvement, and aligns building goals with district priorities. Thornapple Kellogg School District is part of the Kent Intermediate School District.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or higher in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field
  • Valid Michigan Administrative Certificate (or eligibility to obtain)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience; administrative experience preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development, instructional best practices, and student assessment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Michigan's State Standards, curriculum development, use of student achievement data, PBIS, MTSS, and school improvement processes to provide leadership that supports meeting the needs of all learners
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to build relationships with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders
  • Experience managing budgets, resources, and school operations preferred
  • Evidence of ability to consistently foster collaboration, competency, and continuous improvement
  • Experience and understanding of the use of AI in improving instruction and student outcomes

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and instruction
  • Promote high-quality teaching practices and continuous professional growth for staff
  • Utilize data to drive instructional decisions and improve student outcomes
  • Support implementation of district initiatives and state standards
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment for all students and staff
  • Lead efforts to promote positive student behavior and engagement
  • Address student discipline in a fair and consistent manner aligned with district policies
  • Supervise, evaluate, and support certified and support staff
  • Facilitate professional development aligned to school improvement goals
  • Build collaborative teams and promote a culture of shared leadership
  • Oversee daily school operations, including scheduling, facilities, and resource allocation
  • Manage the building budget responsibly and efficiently
  • Ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and legal requirements
  • Communicate effectively with families and community members
  • Build partnerships that enhance student opportunities and school programs
  • Represent the school positively within the community
  • Lead the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan
  • Monitor progress toward goals and adjust strategies as needed
  • Ensure alignment with district and state accountability measures
  • Active participation and leadership in developing and facilitating professional development on topics related to assessment, data, growth measures, PBIS, school improvement, and MTSS
  • Assist in organizing, planning and facilitating registrations, open houses, parent informational meetings and parent-teacher conferences in relation to matters of assessment, data, post-secondary planning, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
