Position Title : Speech and Language Pathologist Licensed Assistant

Location: To be determined

Department : Special Education

Reports To : Supervising SLP and Building Principal

Term: Ongoing 9-month position. Following school calendar. Beginning with the 26-27 school year.

Schedule: Mon-Fri Full-time.

Salary: Position follows the Classified Salary Schedule 2026-2027 at B242. Starting salary begins at $25.75-$28.75/hour, based on experience.

SUMMARY : The Speech-Language Pathology Licensed Assistant (SLP-LA) provides services to learners with speech-language needs under the supervision of a speech-language pathologist (SLP). SLP-LAs serve learners with speech language impairments, ranging from ages three to twenty-one (early childhood through transition services).


The SLP-LA is supported in their role by the SLP supervisor. The SLP supervisor holds a current restricted educator's professional license for speech-language pathology at the master's degree level issued by the North Dakota Education Standards and Practices Board or holds a current SLP license issued by the North Dakota state board of examiners on audiology and speech[1]language pathology and has a minimum of one year of full-time experience providing SLP services since receiving the individual's license

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Participates in IEP meetings with the supervising SLP.
  • Provides speech-language therapy services under the direction of the SLP.
  • Supports the compliance documentation under the supervision of the SLP.
  • Supports Special Education compliance documentation.
  • Develops positive, effective working relationships with learners, families, and staff.
  • Collaborates with education colleagues to improve learner outcomes.

  • Programs and provides instruction in the use of augmentative and alternative communication devices.
  • Connects and shares ideas through appropriate/applicable formats to express thoughts and ideas with integrity.

Responsibility:
  • Provides therapy through a variety of service delivery models - e.g. individual, group, and/or classroom.
  • Administering and scoring screenings for clinical interpretation by the SLP.
  • Administering and scoring assessment tools that (a) the SLPA meets the examiner requirements specified in the examiner's manual and (b) the supervising SLP has verified the SLPA's competence in administration.
  • Implements learner programming plans, progress monitors goals, tracks and documents learner progress data.
  • Performs documented tasks developed by the supervising SLP.
  • Completes Medicaid billing paperwork for eligible learners.
  • Complies with speech pathology licensed assistant supervision requirements.
  • Developing and implementing activities and materials for teaching and practice of skills to address the goals of the learner per the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) developed by the supervising SLP.

  • The employee will work in an environment that has a quiet to loud noise level.
Education and/or Experience:
  • Graduate of a bachelor's level Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders Program.
  • Certification of Completion in speech-language pathology issues by the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction, Office of Special Education.
  • Speech Language Pathology Licensed Assistant license issued from the North Dakota Board of Examiners.
  • Effective computational skills are required.
  • Experience in a school setting is preferred.
Language Skills:
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondences in the English language.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, expressively, and reactively.

  • Exercise confidentiality, discretion, and good judgement.
  • Adhere to the assigned work schedule by maintaining regular and punctual attendance.
